Is There a “Career Change Season”?
Career changes can happen at any point in the year, but some seasons seem to bring more motivation to reflect, reset, and explore what comes next. In our recent LinkedIn poll, we asked:
“What season do you think most people start considering a career move?”
The results: 🍂 Fall: 50% ❄️ Winter: 33% 🌸 Spring: 17% ☀️ Summer: 0%
Fall came out on top, and it makes sense. As summer ends and the final stretch of the year begins, many professionals start evaluating their progress, priorities, and long-term goals. It can feel like a natural reset before the new year even arrives. Winter followed closely behind, likely reflecting the fresh-start energy that comes with January and annual goal-setting. Meanwhile, no one selected summer, suggesting vacations and slower schedules may make it less common for people to focus on changing careers.
What This Means for Candidates
The best time to explore a new opportunity is not necessarily when everyone else begins looking. Preparing early gives you time to update your resume, reconnect with your network, understand the market, and pursue positions that truly align with your experience and goals. A career move does not need to begin with an immediate resignation. Sometimes it starts by simply paying attention to what is available.
